  • Eastern Europe versus Asia

Reports dating back to 2003–2004 focusing on different Eastern European countries hailed the region as one of the most popular destinations for companies from the US and Western Europe looking to outsource their services.

The new kid on the block

While all eyes are on China and India as the next big players of the pharma and biopharma world, there is a "new kid on the block": the Middle East states.

    Global perception

How do you think Asian manufacturing is viewed in Europe and the US (your two largest export markets)? Until recently, it was mostly value for money; but all that has changed with a spate of public relations disasters as all manner of goods, from toys and baby milk through to pet food and toothpaste, have been recalled for various issues (the current favourite is high levels of lead in children's products). Now, Asian manufacturers, particularly those in China, are viewed with some trepidation. Pharmaceuticals haven't escaped the spotlight either, but the onus is now on you to ensure the message reaches the west — products manufactured in this region are safe to use; we must change how Asian companies are perceived from cheap and cheerful to good quality at low prices.
